It's FLU Season!!! Don't Get Sidelined by the FLU...
Children ages 5 and under, and those with health problems like asthma, are tackled the hardest by the flu every year.  They are the ones who have the highest fever and the worst cough and are “out of the game” for many days.  But the flu can be hard on even healthy children.  They may have to miss time from school, while you are caring for them at home, not able to go to work.

This year, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control has both changed their recommendations for flu vaccine for children.  Now, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL CHILDREN AGES 6 MONTHS TO 18 YEARS HAVE A FLU SHOT EVERY YEAR.
So, if your child has not had a flu shot this fall, please contact your doctor for an appointment.  If you do not have health insurance for your child, please contact the Milford Clinic at 422-7150 to set up an appointment for a flu shot.  You can “tackle” the flu before it hits in your home by getting your children immunized.

Becoming ill during the day:
students who become ill during the school day can see the nurse with a pass from his/her teacher.  The nurse will call a parent if she feels the student is unable to continue attending classes.  Please let the nurse know if your child has a special health need you would like her to monitor.

Returning to school:  It is required that students be free of fever for 24 - 48 hours without taking fever-reducing medicines before they return to school. Vomiting and diarrhea need to have stopped 24 hours before returning to school. Antibiotics for contagious diseases like pink eye, or strep throat need to be taken for 24 hours before your child comes back to school. If your child has a contagious condition or illness, please notify us so that other children can be monitored for similar symptoms.
